REFERENCES AND SOURCES

All Scripture references are to the Revised Standard Version (RSV) unless otherwise stated.

Please note that ‘Church’ refers to the Universal Church scattered throughout the world (and in Heaven, too, if this is implied) whereas ‘church’ refers to the local church, an individual fellowship of believers.

I’ve cited numerous ancient authorities such as Herodotus and Xenophon on occasions but I’ve drawn translations of their works from a great variety of sources discovered on the web which may or may not still be available. Sources of ancient texts seem to appear, disappear and reappear in another form elsewhere so I’ve deliberately neglected to cite the url of the source in question.

Josephus - All quotations are specified as to which work they’re from and are taken from on line translations by an unknown translator.
